One-line positioning

Virtual background lead for a fashion-led visual project, building digital worlds that matched live-action shoot lighting.

Context

This project was led by a fashion designer and produced through a live-action fashion shoot pipeline. My workstream focused on virtual background development to match the styling direction and practical footage.

Your role

I built the virtual world based on wardrobe style and captured materials, then matched on-set lighting from photographed references so models could be composited naturally into the digital environment. I owned the virtual background track with support from one assistant.

Team setup

  • Project lead: fashion designer.

  • Shoot team: model, photographer, photography assistant, and makeup/hair artist.

  • Virtual background team: me as lead plus one assistant.

Workflow

  • Review wardrobe styling and selected on-set capture materials.

  • Design and build a corresponding virtual world with matching art direction.

  • Analyze practical shoot lighting from reference images and recreate lighting inside the digital scene.

  • Integrate subjects into the virtual environment and refine blend quality for natural visual coherence.

Key deliverables

  • Fashion-style-aligned virtual world environments.

  • Lighting-matched virtual background setups based on practical photography.

  • Compositing-ready scenes where live-action subjects blend cleanly into the digital world.

Technical challenge

The core challenge was photoreal integration: virtual scene lighting had to match practical shoot lighting closely enough that subjects felt naturally embedded rather than composited.

Outcome

Delivered a production-ready virtual background package that supported the fashion team's visual direction and achieved consistent live-action-to-virtual blending quality.
